But just like the divorce process itself, choosing the right lawyer for you can take time and making a spontaneous decision about legal representation may lead to problems down the road. Some of you may have already heard about the divorce package that is being offered at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa in Saratoga Springs, New York. Often associated with romance because of its draw as a destination for weddings, a representative says offering divorce packages is a great way to make sure that they are providing services to all their guests.
But as we said above, some of our readers may not consider these packages such a good idea.
For $5,000, couples will each have separate rooms and have access to a lawyer who will help them mediate the divorce process. While this might sound like a good idea, it’s worth pointing out that couples must use lawyers provided by the hotel. Having representation chosen for you eliminates the likelihood that the attorney has your best interest in mind, which might be disconcerting for some here in Massachusetts.
There is also the promise of a quick turn around on separation negotiations as well, which could be especially concerning for our more frequent readers who know how lengthy the divorce process can get sometimes.
So whether the divorce package is for you or not, it’s worth keeping the concerns above in mind. This is especially true if you want to avoid any legal problems down the road.
