Choosing the time for your divorce can be crucially important

For some Massachusetts couples, divorce becomes inevitable at some point. With so many marriages ending in divorce these days, ending a marriage is on the mind of someone, somewhere every day. But that doesn't mean that officially filing for divorce as soon as that tipping point has been reached is necessarily a good idea.

In fact, there are plenty of good reasons to delay a divorce filing. It all depends on the individual, of course; for some people, getting out of a marriage will take priority over just about anything else. For others, though, patience may be a virtue when it comes to legally ending a marriage.

One reason that couples might find it prudent to wait is health insurance coverage. If one member of the couple gets insurance via his or her job, then the spouse would lose that coverage upon a divorce. If that spouse doesn't work, or isn't easily insurable due to pre-existing health issues, then the costs could be overwhelming.

Another reason to put off a divorce is if a family business is about to be, or is in the process of being, sold. It's possible that a judge in a contentious divorce case might suspend the sale until after family matters have been officially resolved.

Of course, looking at the calendar can give guidance to people thinking about divorce as well. A big family event, such as a wedding, graduation or holiday celebration, for example, could become extremely awkward and stressful with an impending divorce hanging over the proceedings.
